So like not many or maybe many, i studied CS in undergrad in Nigeria. My experience wasn’t different form the norm. There was very little practical and lots of theories(ancient theories :-( ). As a person who didn’t go into CS because i was wooooowed by computers, it was difficult to get excited about the course. So so so, i lost all iota of interest in CS. I couldn’t wait to be done with school and become a nutritionist.

Top Secret: Don’t tell no one okay!! So while i was serving my country (NYSC), i wrote JAMB and purchased direct entry form to go back to school and study nutrition and dietetics. I even registered for SAT prior to my service.

Unfortunately or maybe fortunately (i’ll let you decide), all of my plans didn’t work (how sad). Hmmmm, so what to do with my life?!

Boom!!, then i stumbled on this new thing, definitely not new, except to moi. It’s called Data science. But why?, why this late?. It was all i wanted, a perfect blend of CS and mathematics (Oh! how i love maths. I actually studied CS/Maths in undergrad). Data science, where have you been all this while? Why did you hide yourself from moi? Well, thank goodness you’re here.

Ohhh Data Science!, Where have you been? where?

So i got a new focus and motivation to continue with CS and tech. I’ve been Pythoning since ’17 and i cant get enough of it. It’s been a beautiful ride through Data science, ML, AI, DL and i never wanna stop

So i started the HNG5 internship officially today and i hope it takes me one giant step up my career ladder.

Finally, i think you should find what makes you happy and go after it wholeheartedly. And to all them Naija universities, in particular CS departments; review your curriculum and introduce students to all the many, many, many branches of computer science okay?!
